In Control’s Community Visit Program was first offered in Massachusetts in 2015 thanks to a grant from the National Highway Safety Administration through the MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. Since then, it’s been offered to thousands of high school teens and experienced drivers in dozens of Massachusetts cities and towns.

These community visits feature ride-along demonstrations led by state-certified In Control instructors. Passengers are taken through a series of controlled driving drills that replicate how a vehicle responds at different speeds and in realistic emergency situations. During the experience, participants learn:

  • Why seat belt use is essential (Massachusetts ranks near the bottom nationally for seat belt compliance)

  • How even small increases in speed dramatically reduce control and stopping ability

  • The importance of staying fully engaged behind the wheel

  • The risks associated with impaired driving, including alcohol, drugs, and drowsiness

Because our trained instructors remain in the driver’s seat at all times, these demonstrations can be safely delivered in parking lots or on temporarily closed public streets. Click here to see some of the past results.

Community Visits funded by this grant should be completed before the end of the 2025/26 school year. For more information or to schedule your visit, contact Dan@iDriveInControl.org today!
