Motorcyclists are at greater risk
Look twice for motorcycles, especially at intersections, where motorcycle collisions most commonly occur. Safe riding practices and cooperation from all road users will help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our nation’s highways. But it’s especially important for drivers to understand the safety challenges faced by motorcyclists such as size, visibility, and no protection. By raising motorists’ awareness, both drivers and riders will be safer sharing the road.
Below are some things to keep in mind:
Look twice for motorcycles, especially at intersections.
Always assume motorcycles are closer than they appear to be, and avoid turning in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
Share the road, motorcycles take up less room on the road and ease traffic congestion.
Use your turn signals and check your blind spot before changing lanes.
Don’t follow a motorcycle too closely.
Give motorcyclists a full lane.
Obey posted speed limits.
Don’t drive distracted.
